Puppy class on the 26th May
Due to the predicted 30degree temperatures on Tuesday, we have made the decision to cancel this class. We hope to resume on June 2nd.
This is the advice from The Kennel Club for puppies:
Sun and Environment
-
Never leave unattended: Never leave a puppy in a car, caravan, or conservatory. Even on a moderately warm day, temperatures can soar to lethal levels in minutes.
-
Provide Shade: Ensure your puppy always has access to shaded, well-ventilated areas, both indoors and outdoors.
-
Sun Protection: Use a pet-safe sunscreen on exposed, lightly pigmented areas like the tips of their ears and nose to prevent sunburn.
Hydration and Cooling
-
Fresh Water: Ensure fresh, cold water is always available. Drop in ice cubes or keep a vacuum flask of chilled water on hand when you are out.
-
Cooling Aids: Provide a damp towel for them to lie on or use a cooling mat.
-
Enrichment over Exertion: Instead of going for walks, which can overexert them, wear off their energy using indoor puzzle toys or by hiding treats.
-
Frozen Treats: Give your puppy a frozen Kong, ice cubes made with low-salt stock, or frozen dog-safe fruit to help them cool down from the inside.
Walking Safely -
Time of Day: Only walk your puppy in the cooler hours of the early morning or late evening.
-
The Tarmac Test: Pavements and tarmac can get hot enough to burn paw pads. Place your hand flat on the ground for 5 seconds; if it is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for your puppy.
-
Stick to the Grass: If you do walk them, stick to shaded grassy areas rather than hot pavements

A successful Spaniel Working Test Workshop. Well done to all the handlers and their dogs. We ran a mock working test, giving handlers and opportunity to experience how a test would be run and what is required of them and their dogs.
It was a pleasure to host children from Mount Pleasant Junior School in Southampton, with their resident school dog, Jasper.
At school the children are part of 'Operation 4 Paws'. They learn about dogs and how to be safe and sound around them. They also train and work with Jasper within school day. We had the opportunity to show them around the kennels and teach them how we take care of the dogs staying with us. We finished with a great training session with Jasper!
The children's investment in working with Jasper will lead to responsible dog ownership for the next generation.
